Mount&Blade includes a modular mb.fx file that can be used to alter the internal geometric (per vertex) and fragment (per pixel) shaders, or even create new ones! Shaders are used for altering the appearance of models, creating normal mapping, specular reflectivity,... and making possible effects like SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) or SMAA (Enhanced Subpixel Morphological Antialiasing).
