[A tutorial created by Barf]

Xnormal is the best normal map creation program available, make sure you already added UV's to your lowpoly, (hipoly doesn't need UV's).

  1. Export your Hi-Res .obj from Sculptris
  2. Open up Xnormal, Notice the 3 tabs> High Definition meshes, Low Definition meshes and Baking options, these are the only tabs you need.
  3. Load up your low res .obj and hi res .obj in the appropriate tabs.
  4. Go to the Baking options tab.
  5. Put a checkmark beside Normal Map, and any other map you want. you can also click the green button to its right side to get additional options for each type of renderable map.
  6. Select your Output file, bmp, tga, png file types are fine, I wouldn't use .dds because of lack of options and the lossy compression.
  7. Select your texture size (1024x1024) is the standard, you can always reduce later.
  8. It's all set up so go ahead and click the large blue button in the corner labeled "Generate Maps"

Warning: Be sure to uncheck "Match UV's" under Low Definition Meshes, the UV's of the hi-poly model don't matter.

I could keep going but this is already way longer than intended and there are better tutorials out there.
